The Venturing Committee met Tuesday, October 28th at Denny’s. Members present were Daryll Boettcher (committee chairman), Deanna Bruso, Jeff Herschberger, Ron Liebl, Tom McGehee (committee advisor), Ed Rivard, John Susek & Jeff Thornton.
Much of our meeting was spent discussing the best ways to communicate with the crews and to get the crews to communicate with each. The more they know about each other, the more they will know about the different activities and opportunities that are out for them. Currently if we have your email address you should be getting notices about Venturing activities in our area and across the country. One in particular you’ll want to keep in mind is the Great Lakes Jamboree, at the EAA in Oshkosh. It’s being held next September and you won’t want to miss it.
It has never been easier to communicate with each other than it is now. I would venture to say that 95% of our youth today have been using computers since they were in grade school. I have nothing to base my percentage on, but 99% seemed a little too much as it makes me feel a little inadequate. My space, facebook, texting and blogging are terms I’m familiar with. I’m just not sure what they all are, but I can learn and I will. I challenge the crews out there to do the same. Oh, I’m sure you already know what those terms are and you know how to use them. Let us know what you are doing. Let other crews know what you are doing. You might want to invite other crews to join you. Don’t just nod your head and think about it. Do it.
This committee meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. For the location of the meeting, check out the Venturing Pages on the council website. All Crew Advisors and Ventures are invited to join us.
